Ketamine Assisted Therapy (KAP)
Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAP)
A compassionate, collaborative approach to deeper healing
At Healthy Family Beginnings Therapy, I believe that healing happens when we feel safe, supported, and connected. For some people, traditional talk therapy alone isn’t enough to create the relief or transformation they’ve been longing for. Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) offers a gentle but powerful way to access deeper emotional insight and create meaningful, lasting change.
To make this service accessible, I partner with Journey Clinical, a specialized medical team that provides the medical evaluation, prescription, and ongoing monitoring for ketamine treatment. This collaborative approach allows me to focus on guiding your therapeutic process while Journey Clinical ensures your medical safety and care.
What is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy?
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy combines the therapeutic effects of low-dose ketamine with the supportive environment of psychotherapy. Ketamine has been shown to temporarily increase neuroplasticity — your brain’s ability to form new patterns and perspectives — which can open the door to profound insight and emotional release. When paired with guided preparation and integration sessions, ketamine can help you explore old wounds, shift patterns that feel stuck, and reconnect with parts of yourself that may have felt out of reach.
This process is not about escaping your experiences, but rather approaching them with greater openness, clarity, and compassion.
A Safe, Supported Experience
Your safety and comfort are my highest priorities. Before beginning KAP, you will meet with a licensed medical provider from Journey Clinical, who will complete a thorough evaluation, review your medical history, and determine whether ketamine is an appropriate option for you. They will also create a personalized dosing plan, discuss what to expect physically and emotionally, and answer any medical questions you may have.
When it’s time for your dosing session, I will support you throughout the entire experience — whether we meet in person in my office or through a secure telehealth platform for at-home sessions. If you choose remote dosing, Journey Clinical requires that a trusted support person (called a “chaperone”) be present in your home. During your session, my role is to help you stay grounded, safe, and connected to your intentions, and to hold a calm space for whatever arises.
The KAP Process
Your KAP journey unfolds in a series of intentional steps, each designed to help you feel prepared, supported, and empowered:
Preparation Sessions
Before any ketamine work begins, we’ll spend time setting intentions, building trust, and creating a sense of safety. This foundation helps you enter your dosing session with clarity and emotional readiness.
Dosing Sessions
A dosing session typically lasts between two and three hours. You may experience shifts in perception, increased emotional awareness, or a deep sense of connection. These experiences vary, and there is no “right” way to move through them. My role is to accompany you with care, attunement, and calm presence.
Integration Sessions
Integration is where the real work takes root. After your dosing session, we’ll come back together to explore the insights, emotions, or imagery that surfaced. Together, we make meaning of your experience and connect it to your daily life, relationships, and ongoing growth. Integration is a powerful and essential part of the process.
Through Journey Clinical, you’ll also have scheduled medical follow-ups to monitor progress, adjust dosing if needed, and maintain continuity of care.
Who Might Benefit from KAP?
Ketamine-Assisted Therapy may be helpful for individuals who feel stuck despite previous therapy or medication, or who are seeking a more experiential, inward-focused approach to healing. Many people consider KAP when they are working through:
Depression
Anxiety
Emotional numbness or disconnection
Trauma or long-held patterns that feel difficult to shift
Life transitions or identity changes
Feeling “blocked” in traditional talk therapy
If you’re unsure whether KAP is right for you, we can explore your questions, hopes, and concerns together.
A Collaborative Model of Care
By partnering with Journey Clinical, you receive the combined support of a dedicated medical team and a therapist who walks alongside you throughout your emotional and therapeutic process. Ketamine-Assisted Therapy: Frequently Asked Questions
What is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)?
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy is a therapeutic process that combines low-dose ketamine with the support of a trained therapist. Ketamine can help create a state of openness, emotional insight, and increased neuroplasticity, while therapy helps you make sense of the experience and integrate it into lasting change. Through my partnership with Journey Clinical, you receive both medical oversight and personalized therapeutic support.
How do I know if KAP is right for me?
KAP may be a good option if you’ve tried traditional therapy or medication and still feel stuck, or if you’re looking for a different, more experiential approach to healing. Many people turn to KAP when struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, or emotional blocks that feel difficult to move through with talk therapy alone. We can explore together whether this approach aligns with your needs and goals.
What is Journey Clinical, and why do you partner with them?
Journey Clinical is a specialized medical team that provides the medical evaluation, prescription, and ongoing monitoring for ketamine treatment. They ensure your safety, assess whether ketamine is appropriate for you, and manage all medical aspects of care. This allows me to focus fully on providing therapeutic preparation, support during dosing, and integration sessions so that you receive comprehensive, collaborative care.
What happens during the medical evaluation?
You’ll meet (virtually) with a licensed medical provider from Journey Clinical. They will review your medical and mental health history, discuss your goals, explain what ketamine treatment involves, and determine whether KAP is safe and appropriate for you. They’ll also create a personalized dosing plan and answer any medically related questions you may have.
What does a dosing session feel like?
Experiences during ketamine sessions vary from person to person. Some people feel deeply relaxed, others experience heightened emotional awareness, and some move through dreamlike imagery or shifts in perspective. There is no right or wrong way to experience ketamine. My role is to support you throughout the entire session, helping you feel grounded, safe, and cared for.
Will I be alone during the dosing session?
No. During in-person sessions, I am with you throughout the dosing experience.
For at-home dosing, you will have a trusted support person (a “chaperone”) with you, and I will join you via secure video for the full session. Your safety and comfort are always prioritized.
How long does a KAP session last?
Dosing sessions generally last between two and three hours. Preparation and integration sessions are typically around 50 minutes. The entire process unfolds gradually, with each stage designed to support deeper insight and emotional integration.
Is ketamine safe?
When used in a controlled therapeutic setting with proper medical oversight, ketamine is considered safe for many people. Journey Clinical conducts thorough medical screening to ensure ketamine is appropriate for you and monitors your progress throughout treatment. Common effects include temporary changes in perception, mild nausea, or dizziness, which usually resolve as the medicine wears off.
Do I need to continue regular therapy while doing KAP?
KAP is designed to work hand-in-hand with therapy. Preparation and integration sessions are essential parts of the process and support long-term growth. Many clients find that insights from KAP deepen their ongoing therapeutic work.
How long do the benefits last?
People often experience shifts in perspective, emotional relief, or breakthroughs after a single session, while others notice gradual improvement over multiple sessions. Because ketamine increases neuroplasticity, the therapy that follows can create longer-lasting change. Journey Clinical’s medical team provides follow-up care and can adjust dosing plans if additional support is needed.
What is the cost of treatment?
Costs vary depending on the number of preparation, integration, and dosing sessions, as well as Journey Clinical’s medical services. I’m happy to discuss pricing during a free consultation so you have a clear understanding of what to expect before beginning treatment.
How do I get started?
The first step is to reach out for a consultation with me. We’ll talk through your questions, explore whether KAP is a good fit, and walk through the next steps together. If you decide to move forward, I’ll help connect you with Journey Clinical for your medical evaluation, and we’ll begin preparing for your first session.
